Don't Get It Twisted... THIS IS NOT JUST A PHOTO OPT!
"The smiling Afro-Colombian women seen in these photos were not just impoverished street vendors waiting to collect one US dollar for a brief moment photo opt.. to me, they represented descendants of African slave history in this part of the world and our shared linage across the oceans... They continue to struggle for equality while still surviving racial socio-economics disparities as proud Colombians"....Elizabeth " The Uncaged Traveler"

Historical Cartagena
TEATRO HEREDIA THEATRE Of PERFORMING ART: Opulence interior, velvet smooth seating and ceiling. A cultural experience well worth seeing while visiting the city. We were captivated by the show, comparable to broadway performance...by far! The Afro-Colombians females dancers wore colorful costumes and the men wore spanish-flamenco shirt and pants. The "Cumbia" style of dances were stories from several african themes based on experiences of african slaves. The Heredia site was originally a monastery...later coverted into an art theater. The wood was imported from Portuguese, Carrara marble from Italy, intricate lattice lace wood work, red velvet cushioned seats, 22 carat gold infused plaster The Frescod ceiling is stunning in design with angels that appear floating above.... painted by the same Colombian artist who schuptured St. Peter Claver & The Slave, Artist: Enrique Grau. The Heredia Theatre now serves as a center for performing art, local artists, ballet, touring dance troupes, and social engagements. Seating capacity is 700 patrons ( It reminded me of the "Estate Theatre" in Prague, Czech Republlc, one of the oldest wood standing theater in Europe). A MUST SEE! |
