"Oz Never Gave The Tin Man Nothing He Didn't Already Have"
Imagine a small Arab country rising up out of the desert creating a whole new world...a world not imaged until it was born. A city where you find only the tallest buildings in the world (two of them constructed artificial islands), majestic high rise buildings that boasts star ratings of 5,7,10 for hotels & resorts, camels raised to compete in "beauty pageants" and the prestigious competitive racing festival promoted by current rulers where Arab elite bid high stakes! Camel skin is used to make clothing, shoes, tents, and rugs. Camel food and milk are also a source of commodity. Camel burgers are popular here! Before I began to tell you about my spectacular visit to cities in the United Arab Emirate, first read a "tid bit" of background information here: According to my Google searches, this desert area near the Persian Gulf was inhabited by desert nomads, and a fishing village with roots dating back to 3,000 BC. Over 50 years ago, 1966 oil was discovered which changed this area and led to infrastructure development of schools, hospitals, waterways, ports, roads, communication networks, shopping malls, the horticulture industry imports flowers, plants & trees mostly from the Netherlands, china...in other words most everything into Dubai is imported!..Dubai, UAE...A glistering oasis young county with ambitious growth and constant explosion of building even bigger everything! Keep in mind that there are three Dubai's: The Emirates, Expats, & foreigners who are mostly young people contracted to work either in service-related jobs, or the construction industry. Some workers here warned us that "All That Glitters Is Not Gold"! Now To My Visit: my group "Aces of Club Travel" started our first UAE trip in the city of Al Ain, about 2 hours from Abu Dhabi and Dubai, city. We traveled from the grand Dubai International Calicut Airport by bus escort to the Jabel Hafeet Mountains, site of Hotel Grand Mercure (5-7 stars) located up a narrow, steep winding mountainous road. The surrounding area was desert and miles away from town. Flight Time: Metro (DTW) Detroit to Al Ain, UAE=Approx. 16 hours. Dubai's Legal Currency: UAE "Dirham" (*1 US dollar is worth 3.672 in conversion rate exchange. *(Bank exchange rates change daily) |
AL-AIN City Tours & major points of interest in one being the Camel Souk Market on Meyzard Road,.. Captured great photos with camels and their handlers. These are no regular camel, they are expensive, sold to sheikhs and rulers of other Arab countries for racing, sporting, pageant events and meat (No thank you to camel burgers)! The Souk is near the Bewadi Mall, one of the first stop for shopping!

DUBAI CITY: Better known as the "city of gold" gold jewelry shops don street corners and every mall. Another beautiful mosque:Jumeirah Mosque located near Jumeirah Beach, also in the area is another modern wonder built in 1999, the sail shaped "Burj Arab Jameirah"-most expensive with 7+ star ratings. Dubai currently lay claim to having built in 2010, the tallest building in the world: "Burj Khalifa"..spectacular in size & beauty!
